“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
One of the greatest deceptions of the enemy is to make believers spend their lives searching for what God has already spoken.
One of the greatest deceptions of the enemy is to make believers spend their lives searching for what God has already spoken. Purpose is not a destination you stumble upon, it is an identity you discover in Christ.
Paul does not say that we become God’s workmanship; he declares that we are His workmanship. The Greek word translated “workmanship” is poiēma,from which we derive the word poem. It speaks of something intentionally designed, artistically fashioned, and uniquely expressed. You are God’s living masterpiece. Every detail of your life has been shaped by the wisdom of the Master Craftsman.
Notice also that Scripture says we were created in Christ Jesus for good works. Before God ever assigned you a purpose, He established your position in Christ. This is profound because purpose does not flow from performance, it flows from relationship. Many people exhaust themselves trying to earn significance through achievement, but heaven reveals that significance begins with belonging. You do not work to become valuable; you work because you already are valuable to God.
Even more astonishing is the phrase, “which God prepared beforehand.” This means your assignment did not begin the day you discovered it. Long before you took your first breath, God had already prepared the opportunities, the people, the seasons, and even the grace required for your calling. What appears to you as coincidence is often the unfolding of divine preparation.
The enemy fights purpose because purpose reveals heaven’s investment in your life. Every attack, every delay, and every season of testing is an indication that what you carry has eternal significance. The battle is rarely about your present circumstances, it is about the future God has already written.
Your responsibility is to walk in it. Walking speaks of daily fellowship with God. The Holy Spirit rarely reveals your entire journey at once because purpose is designed to keep you dependent on the One who authored it. As you obey today’s instruction, tomorrow’s revelation is released.
Stop measuring your life against someone else’s assignment. A masterpiece does not compete with another masterpiece. Every creation reflects a different aspect of the Artist. God has never needed a duplicate; He desired an original. The measure of success in the Kingdom is not comparison but obedience.
Today, rest in this truth:Heaven knew your name before the earth knew your face. God has already gone before you, preparing every good work you will ever walk in. Your calling is not chasing you, it is waiting for your obedience.
